서울 生. 홍익대학교에서 미술과 사진을 전공하여 미술학 박사를 취득하였다. 그는 우리나라 1호 사진학 박사다(그가 쓴 사진의 사회 심리학에 관한 논문은 우리나라에서 처음 나온 사진학 박사학위 논문이다).미술·사진평론가로 활동하면서 사진 저서 3권을 냈고, 신춘문예로도 등단하여 필명 이은(李垠)으로 활동하며 소설 6권, 사진 동화 1권, 시나리오 4편을 발표하였다. 그의 소설은 일본과 프랑스에서 출판되기도 했다.

Born in Seoul. He majored in arts and photography in Hong Ik University. He is Korea’s first photography Ph.D holder(His thesis on social psychology of photography is Korea’s first doctorate thesis in Photography).He is active as an arts and photography critic, published three books, he started his literary career by entering the annual spring literary contest and wrote 6 fictions, 1 photo story and 4 scenarios under the pen name Lee Eun. His novels were published in Japan and France as well.

[ 밤의 서울 ] 은 다른 포토 에세이와는 달리 글이 없이 400여장의 흑백 사진으로만 구성되어 있다. 오랫동안 소설가로도 활동한 그는 사진들을 이미지가 흐르는 한편의 영상처럼 꾸며, 전에 볼 수 없었던 독특한 형식의 포토 에세이를 만들어냈다. 쓸쓸하지만 매혹적인 서울의 현대적 정취를 아름다운 사진들과 함께 느낄 수 있을 것이다.

[ Seoul by Night ] has no writing, it is composed of just about 400 black and white photos. He, who was an active novelist, made a unique form of photo essay which is entirely new, like a piece of image with pictures flowing. You can feel the lonely yet, captivating and modern charm of Seoul in the beautiful picture.
